I have lived in the Bellingham/Ferndale area for over 25 years. I have been a Physical Therapist Assistant for over 7 years. During the course of working in physical therapy, I became certified in the MyoKinesthetic (MYK) System which is a treatment that works with the body's nervous system to correct misalignment issues. I have witnessed some pretty amazing results using MYK. The first patient that I really had an "Aha" moment with was an elderly woman who had had such severe sciatica that her family took her to the ER. At the hospital, she was given a painkiller that she was allergic to and ended up with a three day stay in the hospital because of the allergic reaction. When she got out of the hospital, she still had the sciatica and was sent to our clinic for physical therapy.

Traditional physical therapy does not have very many options for getting rid of nerve pain quickly. I was not very experienced in the MYK System but this patient was in so much pain I felt like I had nothing to lose. I did the MYK treatment and had her stand up. No change in the pain. She left and came back two days later and reported that she had felt some relief from the pain a few hours after the treatment. I did the MYK treatment again. When she came back two days after that, she reported that her pain was gone. When her family asked what I had done, she told them that "the therapist worked with my body, instead of doing something to my body". I truly felt like I had performed magic. Since that first success story, I have been able to help hundreds of people using the MYK System.

Performing more hands on treatments also made me interested in learning more about massage therapy. I decided to enroll in a massage therapy program so I could learn more in depth techniques and become licensed as a massage therapist. I strongly believe that massage therapy has so many health benefits and is an important part of preventing and correcting dysfunctional movement patterns. Massage should be a part of everyone’s rehab and wellness program.
